fantasy drama on shape-shifting snakes has managed to cast a spell on
Indian audiences; no wonder it has been remade in different languages.
- ‘Sunetra’ will be launched on November 14.
- The story, that mostly revolves around a female serpent,
who protects the love of her life and the 'naagmani' or avenges the
death of her loved ones, has been represented to the Indian audience in
different moulds keeping the main plot intact.
- While the hit Hindi series ‘Naagin’, produced by Ekta Kapoor is currently airing its sixth season, the television drama has been remade and dubbed in different regional languages. On the other hand, ‘Nandini’, which also narrates the story of shape-shifting snakes, enjoys a different fan base in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and other South Indian languages. It has been dubbed into Bengali as well. Keeping the love of the audience for such stories in mind, a popular Bengali channel is ready to launch ‘Sunetra’, which was originally launched in Telugu as ‘Nethra’.
New Star Cast:
Sudipta Banerjee is playing the titular role in the show. The actress was in Mumbai for the shooting of this series when it was originally launched in Telugu. And the actress is quite happy that her project will now be enjoyed by the Bengali audience as well. Sudipta is a popular face on Bengali television. She has been a part of many shows including 'Saat Bhai Champa', 'Singho Lagna', 'Gramer Rani Binapani', 'Sona Roder Gaan' to name a few.- The original Telugu series features Shivani Tomar of Pavitra Rishta fame, Malayalam actor Prem Jacob, popular Telugu actor Bharadwaj of Mogalirekulu, Sravana Sameeralu fame, senior Telugu artist Jyothi Reddy and others besides Sudipta.
