The latest TRP report is out and Karthika Deepam starring Nirupam Paritala, Premi Viswanath, Shobha Shetty and others, which ended on January 23, has registered some impressive TRPs for its climax.
  
• According to the TRP report, Karthika Deepam's climax episode has raked in good TRPs. The viewership has increased towards the climax on Monday when compared to the ratings of the pre-climax episode on Saturday's (January 21) episode. The fact that the show, which used to be the most watched Teulgu daily soap, is ending along with the curiosity over Karthik-Deepa's fate and Monitha's death has apparently worked in favour of the show and helped it record a good finish in terms of the TRP performance.
  
• Karthika Deepam has ended on a cryptic note with Karthik taking away Deepa, who is struggling to breath due to her cardiac issue, after the latter accidentally shoots their villain Monitha. They even survive Monitha's last murder attempt on them. The episode closes with the tag, 'Malli Kaluddam (We'll meet again)', thereby leaving fans curious about the possible sequel.
  
• Sources close to the show reveal to us that the makers are working on a possible sequel and they are contemplating various ideas and are even exploring the possibilities of a new spin off with some new characters as well. • The show, however, had a cryptic ending with Karthik and Deepa walking into oblivion. Deepa seems to be fighting for her life after she accidentally kills Monitha and luckily survives a bomb blast as planned by Monitha. Karthik, who wants to save Deepa by all means, takes her away and a title 'Malli Kaluddam (We shall meet again)' is displayed towards the end.

We are ending on a high! As you can see, the story organically came to a conclusion with no new potential prospects. We've already tried experimenting with a generation leap, ending Monitha's character, bringing new characters like Waltair Veena, Charusheela etc. So, I guess the makers have taken the right decision to not meddle with the show further."

• Talking about on the news of the show's conclusion, Nirupam said, "Yes, the show is ending and we are not going to return now (laughs). Well, this was a decision taken very recently and we got to know only towards the end of December I guess. It was a mixed feeling actually, you know, because we stepped away for a while after our characters were ended with an accident and then we had to soon comeback amid all the anticipation and hype and then one day you get to know about the show ending."

"Even celebrities like Muralimohan garu (senior actor-producer) asking me about the climax and Paruchuri Gopalakrishna garu (renowned playwright) called up asking when can he see me next. We were fortunate to have many from the film fraternity encourage us throughout this journey," says Nirupam.
  
• Ask Nirupam, who is a writer himself, about the kind of climax in his head, he quickly laughed and said, "Well, I would have ended the show back when our characters met with an accident and proceeded with the generation leap instead. Anyways it's just a personal opinion. The makers are the better ones to decide and back then their strategy was different."
  
• Elaborating on his attachment and journey with his character, the coveted actor said, "We get to see family dramas on TV often and everyone can connect to the female protagonist who has a lot of problems quite easily. But audience might not like or accept a man crying or getting emotional. So, it was a challenge for me as an actor to convince the viewer with Karthik's problems, his emotional breakdowns and why he is doing so. I was a tad worried initially if my character would earn negativity. But it was a blessing that the audiences always sympathised and empathised with Karthik and took him to heart."
  
• Even an actor and TV producer like Nirupam found something about the show interesting. "I was always amazed at the way the makers have handled a small yet sensitive and deep concept like this throughout this journey of 1500 plus episodes. Basically, the show will end if Karthik comes to know about Deepa's truth and understand Monitha's cruelty but running the show on sensibly keeping the theme, drama and suspense intact was something exceptional. Especially, sequences like the family taking Deepa's side and criticising my character and also Sourya calling my character 'Nanna' for the first time et al got an unexpectedly overwhelming response," reveals Nirupam.
  
• When quizzed about his next move, Nirupam said, "I want to continue doing TV but to quench my creative thirst, I'm also looking forward to trying something new on OTT space as well. I'm hearing to a few scripts and will sure let you all know what I'm up to next." Here are Nirupam aka Doctor Babu's last lines about the show. "Well, I must say Karthika Deepam has become an addiction to many. I've been receiving messages from many expressing how unhappy with the show's ending. But I feel something good or better will fill its space. I hope it can be the new show Brahmamudi also. Because, shows like Mogalirekulu, Chakravakam used to have a cult following and then Karthika Deepam happened. There can be something else tomorrow, we never know. Nothing is permanent I believe. All I can say is Karthika Deepam created history and aa deepam ippudu andari manasullo velugutu untundi (and the diya called Karthika Deepam will stay in the hearts of Telugu audiences forever)."
